Early life

Iyaz was born in Tortola, on April 15, 1987, in the British Virgin Islands, where he spent his childhood years. The singer was born in a music family, which encouraged his present career. He studied Digital Recording at the New England Institute of Technology. Not much is known about his parents and siblings.

Iyaz started his music career at an early age. He was featured on the hit song, Island Girls by Out Da Box Family, which achieved radio success in the Caribbean. Sean Kingston found him through his Myspace page in early 2008 and signed him with a record label by the name Beluga Heights.

Michael introduced Jones to Rotem, the producer in the record label. The star then released Replay in 2009, and the track peaked at number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100.
